Dave Elman has instructed thousands of doctors, dentists, and psychiatrists and relied on thousands of people on their problems quickly and efficiently. He is known, above all, for his direct manner and the speed with which he brought about the desired change in his clients.
Dave Elman is often, but quite wrongly, overshadowed by Milton Erickson. On the contrary, Milton is even said to have once said: “I wish my students could do what Elman’s students can do.”

Who was Dave Elman?
Two names come to mind when talking about the best hypnotists of the 20th century: Milton Erickson and Dave Elman. They have the same status. Erickson’s inductions can take quite a long time, but Elman puts you into a deep trance in less than a minute! Dave Elman’s method is characterized by a high level of effectiveness and a quickly achievable state of hypnosis.
Due to this method’s fast and efficient effectiveness, blockages can be dissolved more quickly. As soon as a person reaches the state of deep hypnosis, the causes of a problem or illness can be rapidly found and treated. The hypnotist’s spoken suggestions, which reverse the situation, are implemented by the hypnotized person as autosuggestions. This also makes it possible to initiate changes to existing behavioral patterns.

The man behind the genius
Dave Elman was born as Dave Kopelman on May 6, 1900, in Park River, North Dakota, and died on December 5, 1967. He became interested in hypnosis when Dave was eight years old and his father had cancer. An acquaintance of the family treated his father with hypnosis for the pain caused by the tumor. That’s when Dave Elman realized what incredible possibilities lay dormant in hypnosis.
Elman would never forget for the rest of his life how his father was helped without the support of modern medicine. Only later in his life, however, would he return to hypnosis and turn the world of hypnosis upside down.
Dave Elman was a talent in many respects:
Elman worked in show business as a comedian and hypnotist in his younger years. However, he soon stopped showing hypnosis as he realized that the parents of the girls he wanted to have an affair with forbade them to do so because he had mastered the “dark powers” of hypnosis.
It was through this friendship that he met his future wife, Pauline.
In the twenties, Dave worked mainly in radio and had his own talent show, which was very well received. In 1959, he was even asked by NBC to host the TV version of the “Hobby Lobby” show – but by then he had already committed himself to hypnosis and turned it down.
The step to hypnotherapy:
In 1948, after a charity show had to be canceled, Elman stepped in and held an impromptu show hypnosis. After the show, doctors in the audience asked him to teach them what they had just seen. All of them had learned various hypnosis methods but could never reproduce the efficiency and speed that Dave Elman could. Elman lectured 20 doctors – after which 20 more doctors lined up to learn from him – and the rest is history.
Elman is also the discoverer of Hypno-Sleep, a fantastic state of hypnosis that has not yet been definitively researched.
Son of the legendary Dave Elman
Larry can boast of having completed his father, Dave Elman’s MEDICAL HYPNOSIS course three times. He was briefly active as a stage hypnotist in high school and college. He then concentrated on a technical career (MIT, Air Force, and the Defense Industry), where he eventually retired as Colonel, USAF. Larry has answered questions about his father’s life, career, and medical HYPNOSIS course for many years.
Now working as a lecturer and writer on various specialized topics, Larry was a presenter at the National Guild of Hypnotists Annual Convention in 2009, 2010 and 2011 where he taught the Dave Elman Methods. He has also lectured at the IHF, ACHE, IMDHA/IAC and the Virginia Annual Conference Larry is married to Cheryl Modjoros-Elman.

The first student of Dave Elman
Gerald F. Kein (also known as “Jerry”) was the first student of Dave Elman at the age of just 12, and it is thanks to him that these modern methods were further developed. Jerry Kein ran the OMNI Hypnosis Training Center in DeLand, Florida, until he retired permanently in January 2015. But even after that, Jerry continued to support Hansruedi Wipf, whom he chose as his successor in 2012, with great interest until he died in 2017. According to his stories, Jerry got on Dave Elman’s wife’s nerves as a little boy until Dave Elman took him to his lectures and let him make the audio recordings. From then on, Jerry was hooked, and hypnosis played a central role in his life.
Ultra-Height® is, among many other important insights, Jerry’s most significant contribution to the world of hypnosis. Ultra-Height® is a metaphysical approach based on the Esdaile State (Hypnotic Coma) and opens up self-discovery and self-healing in a state of the “Higher Self.”
DEI Project 100
100 years of Dave Elman induction – 100 translations!
This project aims to make the Dave Elman Induction available for download in at least 100 languages before the end of 2012, both in written and audio form.
The idea of making the Dave Elman Induction available to all interested parties worldwide in all languages came from the OMNI Zurich class in April 2012. One of the participants, who lives in Switzerland, is of Russian origin. I asked her to translate the Elman Induction into Russian and read it to us. It was exciting to experience, even though we didn’t understand the language, how rhythm, emphasis, and vibration nevertheless put some participants into a trance. This was the origin of the idea.
Currently, we have made significant progress with translations in English, German, Russian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Swedish, Turkish, Romanian, and Hebrew. To continue this momentum, we are actively seeking the expertise of experienced hypnotists who can help us expand the availability of the Dave Elman Induction in more languages.

We want to make the Elman induction better known worldwide to make it easier for many people to access this fantastic hypnosis induction and to provide hypnotherapists with an induction with which they can safely guide 85% and more of their clients into somnambulism (deep trance) the very first time.
We promote this with various campaigns. The Dave Elman Centennial Seminar in Zurich in April 2012 with his son, Larry Elman, was part of this.
The next step is to translate Elman Induction into 100 languages.

Exclusively in German-speaking countries: The Dave Elman Seminar with Larry Elman, son of the legendary Dave Elman, was held for the first time on April 20-21, 2012. It was two intense days full of personal insights into the life of Dave Elman, probably the most influential hypnotist of the 20th century. Larry Elman presented the 40 or so participants with a lot of new background information, content, tricks, and tips that reveal the true potential of the Dave Elman introduction, whose simplicity is so captivating.
Larry Elman also showed that it is not only an ingenious introduction but also intensively conveys the processes and therapeutic approaches. It is simply everything you ever wanted to know about Dave Elman, his introduction, and his methods.
Another highlight of the second day of the seminar was Larry and Cheryl Elman’s wedding anniversary. The friendly couple were delighted to spend this special day with the seminar participants in Switzerland.
